EMDR- Personal Stories

Check out this great video from real people who have been set free using EMDR.

Benefits of EMDR

What is it?

EMDR is a brilliant technique developed in the 1980's by Francine Shapiro. Since then over 30,000 clinicians have been using the technique to help reduce the trauma of childhood, abuse, rape, war, auto accidents and other catastraphies.

If you experience flashbacks, re-occuring nightmares, anger outburst resulting from a life threatening experience, then talking about your experience  is probably uncomfortable. With EMDR therapy, you are in charge and your brain is able to solve the root of the upsetting memory by replacing it with a positive response.

There are eight phases, and typically you can see results by the second session.

Who provides it?

EMDR is available only through trained or certified clinicians who took over 50 hours of trainings, and received 18 hours of hands on instruction. My training was with EMDRhap.org in Sept of 2018.

Can EMDR help me?

This powerful short-term therapy is highly effective for a wide range of disorders including chronic pain, phobias, depression, panic attacks, eating disorders and poor self-image, stress, worry, stage fright, performance anxiety, recovery from sexual abuse and traumatic incidents.

Is it safe?

Research shows that EMDR is rapid, safe and effective. EMDR does not involve the use of drugs or hypnosis. It is a simple, non-invasive patient-therapist collaboration in which healing can happen effectively.   As of today, EMDR is the only therapy used by the VA to treat veterans with PTSD.

How long does it take?

Clinicians are required to take a thorough history of your medical and psychological background to decide which phase of EMDR is the right for you.  Established clients can get results in one same session. If you come in as a referral and continue working with your therapist, you will need three visits to see improvement. Intake session, safe/calm place session and then trauma reduction phases.

What happens after the session?

EMDR candidates should be in a safe season of life with no impending issues that will upset their treatment. Allow 3-4 hours after each session for you to retain emotional stability. Do not squeeze this in during your lunch hour. You can have more than one session per week.
